Cannot Install or Remove Trend Micro PC-cillin 2000

When you try to install or remove (uninstall) the Trend Micro PC-cillin 2000 antivirus program on a computer that is updated with Service Pack 3 (SP3) for Windows 2000, you may experience the following behaviors:
  • When you try to install PC-cillin, the installation is unsuccessful and the Windows Installer rolls back the installation when Setup is complete.
  • When you try to remove PC-cillin, the operation is unsuccessful.


This behavior occurs because the PC-cillin installation program calls a custom action during the installation and removal of the program. This custom-action program is incompatible with version 2 of the Windows Installer that is included with SP3 for Windows 2000.


To resolve this issue, contact Trend Micro to inquire about a possible update or patch for the PC-cillin antivirus program.
