When you use Connection Manager to build a custom connection service that runs during the Winlogon process, the connection service may not start during Winlogon. However, if you start the same connection service from the desktop, the connection service does start.
This problem occurs if the full path of the custom connection service contains spaces. When Connection Manager starts a custom action from WinLogon, the path is passed to the CreateProcess function without double quotation marks around the path. Therefore, if the path contains spaces, the path is split into separate path arguments at each space.
For example, the following path
C:\Documents and Settings\Application Data\microsoft\network\connections\cm\myprofile\custom.exeis split into the following four path arguments:

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.
