Scheduled tasks do not run after you install Windows XP Service Pack 1

After you install Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 1, the Task Scheduler service may not start as expected. In this scenario, your scheduled tasks do not run. Additionally, when you click View Log on the Advanced menu in the Task Scheduler service, you see that the following error is logged to the Schedlgu.txt file:
Task scheduler fails to start with 0x80041311 (SCHED_E_ACCOUNT_DBASE_CORRUPT)
0x8004130f: No account information could be found in the Task Scheduler security database for the task indicated.


This problem may occur if the credentials database is corrupted.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Note After you apply this hotfix, you must either restart your computer or restart the Task Scheduler service. To restart the Task Scheduler service, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Services.
  3. In the list of services, click Task Scheduler, click Stop, and then click Yes when you are prompted to stop the Task Scheduler service.
  4. Click Start, and then click Close.


Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.
