"NTLDR Is Missing or Corrupt" Error Message During Windows 2000 or Windows NT 4.0 Upgrade

When you upgrade from Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98 to either of the operating systems listed at the beginning of this article, you may receive an error message similar to the following during the first restart:
NTLDR is missing or corrupt


This behavior may occur if EZ-BIOS is installed on your computer.

EZ-BIOS is a utility that permits you to create larger partitions than Windows 95 or Windows 98 supports by rewriting the partition table. Neither of the operating systems listed at the beginning of this article need this utility, and this utility may prevent you from upgrading to these operating systems.
