SYMPTOMS

After you install Exchange 2000 in a Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 site where GFI FAXmaker for Exchange has been previously installed, the fax gateway proxy on the Exchange Server 5.5 Site Addressing object disappears.

CAUSE

Some third-party proxy generators such as GFI FAXmaker for Exchange assume that mixed-case proxies are primary proxies. The Active Directory Connector (ADC) interprets this mixed-case proxy as a secondary proxy, and consequently drops the gateway proxy address for FAXmaker when the ADC replicates to Exchange Server 5.5. Essentially, the ADC drops mixed-case proxies on the Exchange Server 5.5 Site Addressing object.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

In Exchange 2000 Service Pack 2, mixed-case proxies on the Exchange Server 5.5 Site Addressing object are no longer removed by the ADC.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 2.
