When you stop the Information Store service on an Exchange 2000 server, the following error messages may be logged in the Event Viewer Application event log:
Event ID: 1101
Source: MSExchangeIS Public Store
Type: Error
Category: Background Cleanup
Error 0x3ed occurred on message 1-2C02 during a background cleanup on database ""First Storage Group\Public Folder Store (servername)

Event ID: 7200
Source: MSExchangeIS Public Store
Type: Error
Category: General
Background thread FBackgroundTimedEvent halted on database ""First Storage Group\Public Folder Store (servername)due to error code 0x3ed.
Despite these error messages, the information store shuts down cleanly.

This issue can occur because Exchange 2000 does not suppress these error messages when the store is shutting down. These error messages are misleading and do not indicate a problem. They can be safely ignored.

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
