The Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Assistants service (MSExchangeMailboxAssistants.exe) crashes after the mailboxes are migrated from an Exchange Server 2007 server to an Exchange Server 2010 server. Additionally, the following event is logged in the Application log:

Time: Time
ID: 4999
Level: Error
Source: MSExchange Common
Machine: Computer
Message: Watson report about to be sent for process id: Process ID, with parameters: E12, Build Type, Version Number, MSExchangeMailboxAssistants, M.E.Data.Storage, M.E.D.S.StoreObjectStream.CreateStream, M.E.D.Storage.PropertyErrorException, 4-digit hexadecimal number, Version Number. ErrorReportingEnabled: False

This issue occurs because the Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Assistants service does not catch the StoragePermanentException exception that is caused by the IncorrectValueType error. The error occurs when the service tries to stamp the BodyTag property of message items after the mailboxes are migrated.

To resolve this issue, install the following update rollup:
