Symptoms

HOME-related environment variables (such as HOMEDRIVE, HOMEPATH, and HOMESHARE) that are set from a Group Policy object (GPO) logon script are not retained after logon in Microsoft Windows XP. After the logon process is completed, you notice that the variables have reverted to their default values.

Service pack information

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.
