When you attempt to import a comma-delimited text address list into Direct Mail Manager, the following error message may appear:
An error occurred when attempting to open the address list file path\file name. Please check that (1) the file exists; (2) you have a file format (and proper delimiter) supported by Direct Mail Manager; or (3) the file is not locked or your access is otherwise restricted.
This problem occurs when all of the following conditions are true:
Use one of the following methods to work around this problem:
Method 1: Rename the Comma-Delimited Text Address ListRename your comma-delimited text address list to a different supported file name extension. For example, if your comma-delimited text address list is named Address.txt, rename the file to Address.csv.
Method 2: Import a Different File FormatUse a different format to import your Direct Mail Manager address list. For example, use a tab-delimited text address list.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Direct Mail Manager version 2.02.0042. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Direct Mail Manager version 2.02.0043.
To upgrade Microsoft Direct Mail Manager, start Direct Mail Manager; click Next; click Options, and then click Check Now.
