SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You upgrade a Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 server that includes the Office 2003 Web Parts and Components add-in to Windows SharePoint Services 3.0.
  • To make this upgrade, you use the database migration method to migrate the Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 content database to a new Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 environment.
In this scenario, you receive the following error message when you try to visit a Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Web site:
Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Office.DataParts, Version=11.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
Additionally, you receive the following error message when you try to install the Office 2003 Web Parts and Components add-in on a Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 server:
You must install Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 before you install Office 2003 Web Parts and Components.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the Office 2003 Web Parts and components are deprecated for Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0. However, you can still use the Office 2003 Web Parts and Components add-in when you upgrade a Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 server that has the Office 2003 Web Parts and Components add-in installed to Windows SharePoint Services 3.0.

WORKAROUND

Install the Office 2003 Web Parts and Components add-in on the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 server.

Notes
  • Adding the Office 2003 Web Parts and Components add-in to a Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 server should be used as a temporary workaround only.
  • The Office 2003 Web Parts and Components add-in requires that the client computer that will modify the Web parts have either Office 2003 client applications or the Office 2003 Office Web Components add-in installed. Before you upgrade client computers to the 2007 Office system, phase out the Office 2003 Web Parts and Components add-in, and use alternative solutions. The client components for the Web parts that are included in Office 2003 are not included in the 2007 Office system.
To install the Office 2003 Web Parts and Components add-in, follow these steps:
  1. Download the Office 2003 Web Parts and Components add-in. To do this, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=38be67a5-2056-46a1-84b1-337ffb549c5c&displaylang=en
  2. Use a file-compression tool such as WinZip to extract the contents of the package that you downloaded. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Use the file-compression tool to open the Ststpkpl.exe package, and then extract the Ststpkpl.cab file from the Ststpkpl.exe package.
    2. Use the file-compression tool to open the Ststpkpl.cab file, and then extract the following files from the Ststpkpl.cab file to the root of the drive. For example, extract the files to drive C.
      • Gplib.cab_LocaleID
      • Quickqt.Cab_LocaleID
      • Microsoft_Office_DataParts.Cab_LocaleID
Note LocaleID is a four-digit number that represents the locale ID. For example, the locale ID may be 1033.
    3. Rename the files that you extracted in step 2b to the following:
      • Rename Gplib.cab_LocaleID to Microsoft.Sharepoint.Solutions.GreatPlains.cab
      • Rename Quickqt.CAB_LocaleID to Microsoft.Sharepoint.WebParts.QuickQuote.cab
      • Rename Microsoft_Office_DataParts.Cab_LocaleID to Microsoft.Office.DataParts.cab
  3. Use the Stsadm.exe command-line tool to install the Office 2003 Web Parts and Components add-in. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd in the Open box, and then click OK.
    2. Type the following lines at the command prompt. Press ENTER after each line.
      cd /d %commonprogramfiles%\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\Bin
stsadm.exe -o addwppack -filename Drive:\microsoft.sharepoint.solutions.greatplains.cab -globalinstall -force -lcid LocaleID
stsadm.exe -o addwppack -filename Drive:\microsoft.sharepoint.webparts.quickquote.cab -globalinstall -force -lcid LocaleID
stsadm.exe -o addwppack -filename Drive:\microsoft.office.dataparts.cab -globalinstall -force -lcid LocaleID
    3. Type exit, and then press ENTER to exit the command prompt.
  4. Restart Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0. To do this, click Start, click Run, type iisreset in the Open box, and then click OK.
