FIX: Error message when you run a client application or a script by using WMI in the .NET Framework 2.0: "Not enough storage is available to complete this operation"

SYMPTOMS

You run a client application or a script by using Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) in the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.Then, the application or the script stops working. On the WMI log file, you find error 0x8007000E, and you receive the following error message:
ERROR_OUTOFMEMORY: Not enough storage is available to complete this operation.
Additionally, you have to restart the WMI application or the WMI script.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Mscoree.dll module does not free the heaps that it creates. The Mscoree.dll module is loaded by the Msiprov.dll module, which is the provider for the Win32_Product class.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix Information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Prerequisites

You must have the .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2 (SP2) or the .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed to apply this hotfix.

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix if no instance of the .NET Framework is being used.
